Group windows across apps
Put Safari, Chrome, VS Code, Terminal, Finder, Notes, and other regular Mac windows into one group. One tab equals one app window in your current task.
Latchy groups windows from different apps into one workspace and lets you switch them from a small floating island above the window.
macOS 13+ · Not on the App Store · Requires Accessibility permission
Latchy does not embed other apps. It coordinates their real windows so a group feels like a single tabbed workspace.
Put Safari, Chrome, VS Code, Terminal, Finder, Notes, and other regular Mac windows into one group. One tab equals one app window in your current task.
Latchy shows the next window first, then hides the previous one. The goal is simple: no empty desktop gap between tabs.
Hold Shift while dragging one window onto another. Latchy shows a clear overlay before it creates a new group or adds to an existing one.
Groups stay in your library. Latchy remembers the apps, window titles, documents, URLs, and Finder folders it can use to rebuild the group later.
macOS does not let one app re-parent another app's windows. Latchy uses Accessibility and WindowServer observation to make the illusion practical.
Three gestures cover the core workflow.
The tab island appears above the active grouped window only while you need it.
While the island is open, Tab cycles through the group's apps and commits when you release the modifier.
Pull a tab out of the island and the real app window lands where you drop it.
It needs Accessibility access to read and move other apps' windows. Without that permission, macOS blocks the core tab-group behavior.
No. macOS does not allow cross-process window embedding. Latchy keeps real app windows and coordinates their position, visibility, and focus.
Latchy tracks windows by WindowServer identity where possible. Some same-app multi-window cases still depend on macOS behavior and app compatibility.
No. Apps that control other apps through Accessibility cannot ship in the App Store sandbox. Latchy is designed for direct distribution.
